Hello Thursday.
April 18 2024
Howdy, San Antonio.
We’re now just one week away from the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo’s kickoff event — the Bar-B-Que Cook-Off & Festival.
While all the action officially starts on Thurs., Feb. 10, we want to give our readers — whether it’s your first time or your tenth — a heads up on what to expect.
What’s the Rodeo? 🐂
- The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is a month-long western celebration complete with 19 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) performances that are certain to entertain the whole family. Think: bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and bull riding.
- The events are formatted tournament-style with contestants competing each night for the opportunity to be crowned the San Antonio Rodeo Champion.
More than a stock show 🎡
- Good news — If the stock show is not your thing (we won’t blame you, those barns are not the friendliest on the nose), there’s still plenty for you to enjoy. Stop by the fairgrounds for your pick of classic carnival games + fair food.
- You can also pay a visit to hundreds of vendors at the expo hall — how many flannels are too many flannels? Pro tip: check out the map to pique your curiosity before even stepping foot inside.
Boot Scootin’ Boogie 🎙️
And, what’s Rodeo without a bit of live music? Here are a few concerts we ain’t missing for a thang.
- Midland | Fri., Feb. 11 | $20+ | Picture it: you’re singing to “Drinkin’ Problem,” with a margarita in hand + your best buds by your side.
- Tanya Tucker | Sun., Feb. 13 | $20+ | Trust that we’ll be bawling the second “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane” plays.
- Brad Paisley | Sat., Feb. 19 | $20+ | This concert is everything we ever wanted.
- Ramon Ayala Y Sus Bravos Del Norte | Sun., Feb. 20 | $20+ | How can we make a concert list and not include El Rey del Acordeón?
- 3 Doors Down | Tues., Feb. 22 | $20+ | Who said only country was allowed at the rodeo — this Mississippi rock band is sure to get us feeling like Superman.
