SAN ANTONIO (July 28, 2022) - The City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture wants to hear from residents on where they would like to see Public Arts projects installed in each Council District as part of the 2022 - 2027 Bond. The Department of Arts & Culture will host a community engagement series, along with SASpeakUp surveys, to help residents provide feedback.
During the May 2022 election, voters approved all six propositions in the 2022 - 2027 $1.2 billion municipal bond, which includes 183 capital improvement projects and a record-high funding for public art. The City of San Antonio’s Public Art Program relies heavily on community engagement and feedback to shape what public art looks like in San Antonio. The Department of Arts & Culture’s community engagement series allows residents to share their voice and support the placement of public art for all. These community engagement efforts will help determine public art locations, types of projects, themes and more.
“This is a civic opportunity to create the San Antonio we – residents, employers and visitors – want to see in the future,” said Department of Arts & Culture Director Krystal Jones. “Public Art provides economic opportunities for creative industries, remembers, honors and celebrates our culture, and provides access to quality of life for all residents. Public Art doesn’t just make a city beautiful. It makes a city a home.”
The following upcoming sessions will help determine the location and scope of Public Art projects:
- Tuesday, August 2, 2022 (5:30 p.m.): Virtual via Webex
- Tuesday, August 16, 2022 (5:30 p.m.): In-Person at McCreless Library - 1023 Ada St., 78223
- Tuesday, August 30, 2022 (5:30 p.m.): In-Person at Great Northwest Library - 9050 Wellwood St., 78250
- Saturday, September 17, 2022 (10 a.m.): In-Person at Encino Library - 2515 E Evans Rd., 78259
- Tuesday, September 27, 2022 (5:30 p.m.): Virtual via Webex
