The #FilmSA Contest is a city wide annual student film competition coordinated by the San Antonio Film Commission, a division of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, in partnership with the World Heritage Office. Every other year, the contest supports a theme category exploring San Antonio’s UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy designation. The program is cross promoted across City of San Antonio departments and throughout the city.

The San Antonio Film Festival (SAFILM) is an annual festival that help develop San Antonio’s film culture. Every year the SAFILM festival will include a film block on food films encouraging international participation. In 2023, the “Call for Films” was shared with the UNESCO Creative City of Film and Gastronomy clusters to submit their films for the “Best Food Film Category.”
Four UNESCO Creative Cities, Tucson, Merida, Puebla, and San Antonio will be participating in Pueblos del Maiz chef exchanges for scheduled festivities throughout the month of May. Chefs will showcase the wide range of uses for Maiz, a cultural staple!
The Metro Health ¡Por Vida! program recognizes local restaurants that have healthy menu options, implement sustainable practices, and consistently give back to the community. The goal of the program is to encourage the community to support ¡Por Vida! certified restaurants based on the healthy menu options they offer and on socio-economically and environmentally sustainable practices. The 3-tier program is free and ¡Por Vida! restaurants are classified as bronze, silver or gold. Restaurants that meet the gold tier will receive San Antonio City of Gastronomy window decal and a signed certificate they can post in their establishment.
